Remember Your Brilliance

I plot, scheme and come up with brilliant, and not so brilliant ideas, all day long. Business plans, self-employment dreams, hobbies, and desires to learn new skills. Where do all of these moments go when they are often fleeting due to the many interruptions of the workday? I have notebooks that I write down my thoughts and ideas, but recently I realized another little trick that would help keep everything organized. This works most effectively for those of us on the computer a majority of the day.

1) Open up a simple blank notepad document. Call it what you will (i.e. January 31st Brilliant Ideas)

2) Anytime something pops into mind that you feel like you could expound on later or would regret forgetting, jot some quick notes.

3) Either attach the file or paste the text into an email to yourself.

4) Start anew each day.

This way, you have all of your ideas in your email as a gentle reminder, plus it gets you into a rhythm of checking back with them. (We habitually check our email way more than our local folders.) Each team you see your inbox, you see your ideas and it may inspire more.

Cheap Cups of Coffee

I wonder how many places do this, but if you bring your own mug, you get a discount cup. When If I go to the local shop here in a few minutes, most likely my 16 ounce thermos will get filled for only 80 cents. The typical price for a 16 ounce cup is $1.64. If I bought a cup a day, every day of the week, every week of the year, I would save over $200!! Granted, I try not to buy even close to that much coffee (which saves me more money), but I know many of us do drink coffee daily. Bring your own cup (which will also produce less garbage) and maybe save a little money, too!

I am curious as to who you are and how you found me? Go ahead and make a comment to the blog, please. Thank you!

More excitement coming soon!

Grassroots Support: TrekLight Hammocks

A friend of mine from college has developed a quality product and business selling hammocks. The TrekLight Hammock can be found at his site, TrekLightOnline. While I have yet to purchase one, I know that I will be when the chance for me going camping with my little ones occurs. Until then, check out Brian's site, there is a lot of informative content to compliment his quality hammocks.

Phobias Galore

Most of us have them, but do we know what they are called; PhobiaList does. I find some of the best ones to be fear of abstracts ideas, like psychophobia (fear of mind), theophobia (fear of god and religion), apeirophobia (fear of infinity), necrophobia (fear of death and dead things) and allodoxaphobia (fear of opinions). It is interesting that of all these concepts within the phobia nomenclature, there isn't a fear of the unknown.

Friends and Healers

I have been privileged enough to work with many different healers in the past few years, but the ones that have impacted me and with whom I continue to work with are as follows:

Drooling over Google

Google this, google that...have you used a customizable Google Home page, yet? You will need a google account (email me at mfshearer (at) gmail (dot) com, if you need one). This is absolutely fantastic technology in my humble opinion. On my homepage, I have RSS feeds for my favorites sites, Lifehacker and Ask Metafilter. I have word of the day, my gmail account, Google news feeds, my bookmarks, and more. It is easy and fun to configure. Shoot me an email if you have other questions, too!

Great Music Site: Pandora.Com

Visit Pandora and play around. I don't want to ruin the surprise, but you can listen to alot of new stuff based off of stations you create in regards to a particular artist. Don't make me articulate this, just go to the site and promise good times will be had by all.

Chime Awake

Another Christmas-gift-related post, I must mention the exceptional alarm clock I received from my dear family, made by Now-Zen out of Boulder, Colorado. It wakes me up gently in the morning with a polite B Tone chime. If I don't turn it off on the first ding, it continues to calmly chime in intervals based on the mathematical Fibonacci sequence. Eventually, it chimes every five seconds for five minutes, but I haven't reached that point, yet. The clock is versatile for meditation and yoga, having countdown and interval time settings. Get rid of the buzzer or fuzzy radio and return to zen.

Teko Socks

Socks made by Teko were recently gifted to my wife and I for Christmas. These socks are so comfortable it makes my feet smell my head spin. With a few pairs of these, they would be the only ones I sport. They are ecologically friendly, brilliant design and perfect fit. I suggest visiting your local hiking shop or the Teko website to get your own. Have happy feet!

New Year Resolution

My readers have been demanding new content and I have finally settled into my new home. So since I only work 40+ hours a week, am taking two Masters classes and raising two children, I will be sure to keep this website free from any more cob webs. I hope you enjoy the new feel and look for a new project coming soon at my other site. Until then, go in peace.
